SRC scholars to represent Region XII in the Philippine National Chemistry Olympiad

Three grade 12 scholars of Philippine Science High School-SOCCSKSARGEN Region Campus emerged as top scorers during the Regional Chemistry Olympiad held at Ateneo de  Davao University on November 24, 2018.

After garnering all the top three spots, Kaye Angelli Catipay, Carl Angelo Marcelo, and Daniel Angelo Mirador, will advance to the National level as the official representatives of Region XII.

During the simultaneous regional elimination, the participants answered a 60-item written exam which covers topics in Atomic theory, Molecular Geometry, and Nuclear Chemistry. Ms. Luv Gaburno, official coach,  chaperoned the SRC players.

The SRC delegates, prior to the contest, were engaged in an intensive review and coaching headed by Ms. Gaburno, together with Mr. Paul Randy Gumanao, Ms. Carren Anne Ybanez, and Mr. Ruemar Delima, who are members of the Chemistry Unit of PSHS-SRC.

Catipay, Marcelo, and Mirador, as the Regional Champion, are set to compete this coming January 2019 in De La Salle University-Manila for the Philippine National Chemistry Olympiad (PNCO) 2019.

Annually, PNCO, with the aim of promoting academic excellence in Science, especially in the field of Chemistry, convenes high school students across the country to compete against the best of the best for the chance to represent the Philippines at the international arena.

Winners of the National Finals will be the official contingents in the International Chemistry Olympiad to be held in Paris in July 2019.
